Many patients who suspect they need orthodontic treatment decide they want clear aligner therapy before they even see an orthodontist. However, there are several factors that go into making a decision between braces and Invisalign^®—some which you may not know. If you’re trying to decide between braces vs. Invisalign^®, here are some considerations to keep in mind.

How Complex Is Your Case?

This doesn’t mean, however, that every case can be treated with clear aligners. Although our understanding of how to use Invisalign^® technology has made significant advances, some patients have orthodontic issues that require braces because of the way we need to move some of their teeth. If a patient really wants Invisalign^® rather than braces but has a complex case, we can often treat the upper teeth with Invisalign^® and use braces on the lower teeth. This method allows for the teeth which are most noticeable when smiling and talking to be straightened discreetly. Our goal is for you to receive the treatment of your choice while still achieving the best result possible!

What’s Your Lifestyle Like?

People often think of Invisalign^® as being the “easier” treatment option, but you do need a lot of self-discipline to see great results with clear aligner therapy. While the trays are removable at any time, you must wear them for at least 22 hours a day for them to work. If you tend to be forgetful or don’t have much willpower to spare, braces may actually be the easier treatment option for you.
