  • Montano Orthodontics Hosts Last Dental Ed of the Year

    By admin December 13th

Montano Orthodontics hosted their last Dental Education meeting of the year. The topic was “Direct and indirect Composite Posterior Restorations: Analysis of Layering Techniques and Updated Clinical Suggestions.”

The direct posterior restorations are an important part of clinical dental practice. Nowadays, it is very important for dentists to be able to fofer teir patients a stable, functional, durable and esthetic result. The layering of posterior direct restorations, as well as from a chromatic point of view, should especially take into account aspects such as the shrinkage and the prognosis of reconstructions. In the literature, many aspects of the layering stages have been investigated, examining how to get predictable results and precise clinical indications. In addition, the constant search for new materials and technologies can help the clinican to minimize problems secondary to physical and chemical limits of composites. New materials offer the possiblity of simplifying the layering of composite restorations.

In the case of indirect onlya and overlay, the composite material represents an adequate clinical choice that, thanks to a suitable layering, can offer very high results, from morphological and esthetical point of view.

Even the choice of rotary instruments during the finishing stages appears to be a somewhat controverial topic for the clincian. Now, with the help of literature, we have concrete answers.

The speaker, Dr. Federico Ferraris acquired his DDS from the dental school at Genoa University in 1999, and acted as National President of AISO (Italian Association of Dental Students) between 1997 and 1999. He has lectured as a professor at Genoa University in 2002 and 2003, teaching the operative course program. In addition to this, Dr. Ferraris co-authored several Italian and International scientific publications, including a book on prosthodontics entitiled ‘Precision in Dental Esthetics’ (2004) by D. Massironi, R. Pascetta and G. Romeo. Dr. Ferraris is highly involved in the dental community, being an active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry from 2006, the Italian Academy of Conservative Dentistry from 2007, the Italian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry from 2011, and the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry Editorial Board. Furthermore, he is an active and founding member of the Interdisciplinary Gymnasium CAD CAM. Recently, Dr. Ferraris has been a visiting professor in Esthetic Dentistry at the CEU University San Pablo in Madrid and has spoken at dental congresses and coneucted courses. His practice in Alessandria, Italy– his home city– specializes in operative dentistry and prosthodontics, in collaboration with the dental clinisc of Giano and Andrea Ricci (Florence) and Giulio Rasperini (Piacenza).

It has been a successful year of hosting numerous dental education meetings at our office this year and we look forward to doing it again in 2014!
