  • The Ultimate Guide to Braces Colors

    By admin January 3rd

When you think ‘braces’, you might be picturing a mouth full of unattractive stainless steel wires and dull brackets. Not so long ago, choosing the color of your braces wasn’t even an option. Luckily, that has all changed. Now, when you get braces, you can choose from all sorts of fun color combinations! braces colors—pink

In our Ultimate Guide to Braces Colors, we’ll look at some of the most common questions we get from our patients about braces colors, elastics, and more.

Do Braces Come in Different Colors?

Yes! If you are getting so-called traditional or metal braces or even clear braces, you will be able to select from a wide variety of colors for the elastics that go around your brackets.

Metal braces have a few different components that make them work: they consist of brackets (or bands), archwires, and elastics. By choosing colored elastics, you can inject some personality and style into your braces. The range of colors you can pick from is amazing!

Before you get your braces on, your orthodontist will ask you what colors you would like for your elastics. They will most likely have a list or color wheel with all the colors available for you to choose from. Remember, you don’t have to stick to just one color. Feel free to mix it up.

Once you’ve chosen a color combination, you’re not stuck with it for the entire time you have braces. On your next visit, tell your orthodontist that you would like to choose different colors for your elastics. That way, you can have an entirely new look every 6-8 weeks!

    Braces Colors Ideas

If you’re stuck thinking about what color combination you should choose, here are some ideas to get you started:

    • Your favorite colors
    • The colors of the rainbow
    • Your favorite sports team’s colors
    • School colors
    • Red, white, and blue
    • Holiday colors (red and white for Christmas, orange for Halloween)
    • Superhero uniform colors
    • Colors that match your eyes

    Colors to Avoid

You can always choose any braces colors that fit your personality or style, but we recommend staying away from these colors:

    • White elastics tend to stain easier and may make your teeth appear more yellow. They may also have to be replaced more often as they get stained.
    • Yellow elastics may also make your teeth look yellow

If you’re overwhelmed by choice, the best person to ask is your orthodontist. No matter which color you prefer, Drs. Montano & Cardall stock a large variety of colors—many more than the typical orthodontist! If you would like to know more about braces, braces colors, or another treatment option, schedule a consultation with us today! We would be happy to answer any questions you might have.
